Maryland Handgun Permit - MD Wear & Carry

This course meets the requirements for the Maryland Handgun Qualifications License (MD HQL), required to purchase a handgun in Maryland, and the requirements for the Maryland Handgun Permit (MD Wear & Carry), required to carry a handgun in Maryland and honored in 26 other states for Maryland residents. Upon successful completion of this course, students will obtain the training certifications for both MD HQL (FREE) and MD Wear & Carry.

Course Description:

​

The Instructional portion of this course will consist of learning firearms safety requirements, different types of pistol actions , pistol parts, pistol operations and the fundamentals of shooting a firearm. You will also learn about Maryland laws pertaining to firearms and self-defense.

The Hands-on Portion will consist of a demonstration of pistol disassembly, reassembly, and cleaning. Additionally, you will practice range safety and efficient shooting procedures, as well as shooting a minimum of 25 rounds of ammunition. 

 

**There are NO prerequisites to this training. You DO NOT need to have your own firearm or ammunition. If you have your own, you are welcome and are encouraged to bring to the range but, it is not necessary. Live ammunition and loaded firearms are prohibited during classroom instruction.**

 

RATES:  $275 per person

Initial Deposit: $50 (Non-refundable deposit to hold course enrollment)

LEVEL: Beginner to Intermediate

Attention: If you have a Maryland Medical Marijuana Card, you are ineligible to receive a Maryland Wear & Carry Permit in the State of Maryland.

 

Course Overview: Students will understand wear and  carry procedures, safe gun handling, state laws and use of force.

Maryland Wear & Carry Training includes the following objectives:

  • Understanding Maryland Laws on Transportation of Firearms and Use of Force.

  • Application Requirements

  • Introduce and Review Safe Pistol Handling Rules & Storage

  • Situational Awareness & Safety Principles

  • Pistol Parts, Operation, Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Pistol Grip, Stance, and Trigger Control

  • Understanding of Personal Defense Ammunition and Characteristics

  • Defensive Shooting & Live Fire Qualification

  • Demonstrate Marksmanship Skills

 

To pass your shooting qualification individuals must score 70% or higher.

Prior firearms experience is not required to attend the MD Wear & Carry training class.
